Bike Safety

Bike safety is not something that should be taken lightly. Hundreds and even thousands of cyclists die in bike accidents every year, and most of these deaths can be prevented with simple safety measures. This includes how you ride. Bicycle safety is the protective items you wear. Safety is the gear you use. It even involves the bike you choose to ride. There are some basic tips for encouraging safety.

The first act of bicycle safety is to find a well-fitting bike helmet. Proper safety also includes wearing pads on the elbows and knees. This is an important part of safety because protective gear will protect your fragile skin and bones from serious accidents. Also, a bike helmet can stop a serious concussion or worse. The second part is what you put on your bike. Headlights, taillights, and reflectors are all an important part of safety. If you do not have headlights, taillights, and reflectors, you could run the serious risk of being ran down by a car, even when it is not dark outside. Another part is to check your bike regularly, check the tires, and give it a regular tune-up. Also, the most important part is to cycle defensively, know the laws of the road and follow them, and never count on a driver to avoid hurting you.
